KUCHING, Jan 10: A total of 40 temporary evacuation centres (PPS)—sheltering 3,019 people from 888 households—are currently operating Statewide as of 4pm today due to the floods.
According to the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), the Serian division reported the largest number of centres with 26 sheltering 1,808 people from 533 households.
This is followed by Samarahan with six PPS containing 592 people from 185 households; while Mukah has 198 people from 55 households sheltered in one PPS.
Miri has three active PPS with 158 people from 38 households, and Bintulu has two active PPS for 120 people from 38 households.
Meanwhile, Sibu and Kuching reported 86 people from 38 households and 57 people from 22 households, respectively. Both divisions have one active PPS each.
Overall, the APM noted that flood evacuations are on a downward trend.
Residents in flood-prone areas have been advised to remain alert and comply with evacuation instructions when issued. — DayakDaily
