KUCHING, Oct 13: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen welcomes DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke’s announcement to refute claims that inheritance tax is being proposed to make a comeback in Budget 2025.
According to Chong in a press statement today, during DAP Federal Territories’ State Convention today, Loke said that the matter had not once been discussed in the Cabinet.
“I am glad that finally our party Secretary-General, a minister in the Cabinet, has come out to refute the speculation or rumour that has become rife about the proposed implementation of the inheritance tax.
“Before this, some mainstream media, both the Utusan Malaysia and the News Straits Times, have reported the speculation that inheritance tax will make a comeback in the coming Budget 2025 to broaden the tax base and increase the government’s revenue collection. Such reports have raised grave concern amongst the local communities,” he said.
Chong said he hoped that Loke’s announcement will put a stop to all speculation reported by the media including worries and anxiety of those who read the news published on Oct 3 by Utusan Malaysia and News Straits Times.
“We are glad that our Secretary-General has come forth promptly to clarify the matter. This again highlights the role of DAP Sarawak in the present Federal Government.
“We will continue to be the voice of the people. At the same time, we will leverage on our wider national DAP platform to shape the government’s policy while continue to better serve the interest of the people,” he added. — DayakDaily
