S’wak dancers shine at Asia championship, clinching 23 medals and Top Scorer Award

KUCHING, Sept 24: Sarawak dancers triumphed at the 6th Asia Open Dance Championship (AODC) 2025, held at the Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre (PJPAC), Kuala Lumpur from Sept 17 to 21, claiming 23 medals and the coveted Top Scorer Award.

Coordinated by Elaine Chai, Tyng Dance Academy (TDA), backed by its dedicated coaching faculty, stood out among hundreds of talented dancers from across Asia.

“Every medal reflects not just the hard work of our students, but the spirit of Sarawak. We are building a system that transforms talent into champions, and champions into cultural ambassadors.

“This victory is for our people, Sarawak, and our country – a reminder that Sarawak’s voice belongs on the world stage,” said TDA principal and founder Chan Tyng Tyng in a statement today.

At AODC 2025, Sarawak dancers secured multiple podium finishes, with gold medals won by Germaine Hii Xin Jing, Jocelyn Yap Tai Xii, Tryna Wong E Qin, Calla Roa Tayan Salang, and Teo Wei Tien, while bronze medals were awarded to Hii and Arissa Zara. Hii also claimed the Top Scorer Award.

Looking ahead, TDA will host the 3rd Borneo Open International DanceSport Championship (BOIDC 2025) at Raia Hotel & Convention Centre, Kuching, from Oct 1–7.

The week-long festival will feature a Dancesport Camp, international championship, ASEAN Elite Masterclass, and the Dance for Love Charity Concert.

With participants from over 20 countries and a prize pool of USD10,000, BOIDC 2025 promises to be Sarawak’s largest cultural showcase, uniting homegrown talents with world-class performers. — DayakDaily
