KUCHING, May 16: The proposed Sarawak Craft Council Bill, 2023 to formalise the Sarawak Craft Council (SCC) as an authority for the regulation and development of related craft matters, has been passed unanimously in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.
The Bill was tabled earlier by Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
He said the Bill is important to recognise SCC as the lead organisation responsible for the successful development of the Sarawak craft industry.
Meanwhile, during his winding-up speech, Abdul Karim assured that the SCC would encompass arts and crafts of all ethnicities in Sarawak and not be biased toward any particular race.
“It will encompass, look after all the arts and crafts of all the ethnicities (in Sarawak). So it will not just be only for the Malays. It will not just be looking after the arts and crafts of the Dayak, or just the Chinese, or the Orang Ulu.
“It will encompass all that, and we will make sure that those who sit in the council have got that passion for arts and crafts and make sure that the arts and crafts of all Sarawakians can flourish,” he said. — DayakDaily
