S’wak bags 4 gold, 5 silver, 1 bronze at inaugural ASEAN Team & Youth Muaythai Championship 2025

KUCHING, Sept 2: The inaugural ASEAN Team & Youth Muaythai Championship 2025, which concluded recently, saw the Sarawak contingent return home with four gold medals, five silver medals, and one bronze medal.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), out of nine athletes from the Land of the Hornbills who advanced to the finals, four succeeded in bringing home gold medals in the tournament held at Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya.

Razie Rafizzie secured Sarawak’s first gold by defeating Muhammad Adam from Selangor in the 55kg category.

His victory was followed by Muhammad Syarul Fareez, who overcame Ali Murtaza, also from Selangor, in the 50kg category.

Two more gold medals were contributed by female athletes, Noor Qasliya Mohamad Hardi and Hani Anissa Ismail.

Noor Qasliya defeated Aisya Sofea (Kuala Lumpur) in the 40kg category, while Hani Anissa eliminated Dinar Fitrah (Negeri Sembilan) in the 60kg category.

Meanwhile, the five silver medals were secured by Fatiha Hanum Abdul Hasrul (45kg), Muhammad Nur Aiman Kamaruddin (66kg), Mohammad Nurhizbur Asyraf Mohd Nazri (50kg), Rizz Ezzandy Iswandy (40kg), and Dylan Casey Daniel (40kg).

Sarawak also picked up a bronze medal through Muhammad Rizqin (45kg).

The president of the Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS), Jumaat Ibrahim, expressed satisfaction and praised the performance of the Sarawak contingent at the championship.

“This is a good start for all our young athletes. I hope you will continue to train hard and improve your skills.

“Even though this tournament is just an exposure event, it is essential for our athletes to gain experience in preparation for bigger championships,” said Jumaat.

He also reminded the athletes to stay prepared as the association plans to send them to more similar tournaments to strengthen Sarawak’s readiness for SUKMA 2026 in Selangor.

Jumaat also extended his gratitude to the Sarawak Sports Council (MSNS), Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), and the coaches involved in training the athletes.

He also expressed appreciation to the president of the Malaysian Muaythai Association (PMM) for ensuring that Muaythai will be included in the SUKMA 2026 games. — DayakDaily
