KUCHING, Nov 24: Sarawak will invest in research, development, and innovation under the 2026 Budget, focusing on projects with commercial potential and scientific impact.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Sarawak Research and Development Council will channel RM4 million next year to support high-impact projects in biotechnology, renewable energy, and green industrialisation. To date, RM18.3 million has been spent on 80 projects.
“Construction of the Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre continues with RM50 million allocated, alongside RM22 million for operations. Completion of the Sarawak Science Centre will receive RM48 million, with RM8 million for operations. An additional RM11 million will support disease and research programmes,” he said when tabling the Sarawak Budget 2026 in the State Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.
Other allocations include RM36 million for the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, RM26.6 million for CRAUN Research, RM5 million for the Sago and Nipah Development Board, and RM4.4 million for the Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute.
