KUCHING, June 25: Sarawak has administered over 1.025 million of vaccine doses to date, says Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the Sarawak government remains very aggressive with its immunisation programmes including vaccinating those in rural areas.

As such, he expressed confidence that the target of vaccinating at least 80 per cent of Sarawak’s population can be achieved by August this year.

On the progress of rural vaccination, he said mobile combat teams with officers from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the armed forces were recently sent to areas such as Ba’Kelalan and Long Semadoh.

“The vaccination processes are going well and I’m confident that we will benefit from the vaccination. One more thing I would like to emphasise is that to fight Covid-19, one way is for us to get vaccination, that is to increase our antibodies.

“Number two, even if you have been vaccinated, you must look after yourself because there’s no guarantee. Self-discipline must be there, observe social distancing, wash your hands frequently and take care of yourselves,” he said during a press conference at Samajaya Industrial Park vaccination centre here today.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari also thanked all Sarawakians for their encouraging responses, be it in urban or rural areas, towards the vaccination programmes.

“This is for the whole State, (there were) very good responses. So, this is easier for us to manage as well as to organise and arrange our teams to give vaccination.

“I would like to thank all Sarawakians for their responses. Actually, these are all meant for them, for their own safety and for their health,” he added.

Also present at the press conference was the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

According to the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV), Sarawak managed to deliver 830,756 Dose 1 and 195,607 Dose 2 which amounted to 1,026,363 total doses as of 11.59pm June 24, 2021. — DayakDaily
