KUCHING, Dec 12: The visit by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his delegation to the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Exhibition Centre in China today marked a new chapter in understanding how disciplined planning, effective governance, and technological innovation can shape a world-class industrial ecosystem.

Accompanying the Premier were Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS) Datuk Ibrahim Baki, PETROS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, PETROS Group chief executive officer (CEO) Dato Janin Girie, and other delegates.

A large-scale master plan model displayed the balanced integration of industry, infrastructure, housing, and green spaces, which has been the foundation of SIP’s success.

The briefing also highlighted SIP’s strengths in developing high-value industrial clusters, including semiconductors, biomedicine, automation, information technology, and clean energy.

The delegation’s attention was further drawn to SIP’s use of digital technology and data-driven urban management systems that enhance public service efficiency, utility management, and low-carbon urban planning.

This approach aligns with Sarawak’s aspirations to develop the Kuching Low Carbon Hub (KLCH) as a catalyst for future economic growth.

The visit to the SIP Exhibition Centre was not only an exhibition tour, but also a strategic learning platform that inspires Sarawak to adapt global best practices to local contexts, to build a competitive, technologically advanced, and environmentally responsible industrial sector.

Following the visit, the Sarawak Premier and delegation held a meeting with the Mayor of Suzhou Municipal Government, Wu Qingwen.

Also present were Deng Yajun, deputy general manager of China Jiangsu International Group, and Xu Ben, secretary-general of the Suzhou Municipal Government. — DayakDaily
