Suspected short circuit fire disrupts CATS FM broadcast throughout Sarawak

KUCHING, July 17: A fire caused by a suspected short circuit in a room at CATS FM on Jalan Demak Laut last night (July 16) has disrupted the local radio station’s broadcast throughout Sarawak.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) responded to the emergency at 9.16pm on Tuesday and swiftly deployed a team of firefighters from Petra Jaya Station to the scene.

Upon arrival, only smoke was detected, and no extinguishing of flames was necessary.

Several staff members were in the building at the time of the accident, but fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.

Firefighters inspected the building to ensure safety before concluding their operation at 10.05pm.

In a notice today, CATS FM informed listeners that its broadcast services at all frequencies throughout Sarawak, including live online streaming services, are temporarily off air as a result.

The radio station apologised for the inconvenience as repair works are still ongoing to restore their services. — DayakDaily
