KUCHING, Oct 23: Sarawak contributes approximately RM250 million every day to Petronas thanks to 850,000 barrels of oil extracted per day from this state, which is equivalent to 100 brand new Rolls Royce Phantom (priced at RM2.2 million per unit) delivered to Malaya per day.
In quoting the report from Petronas CEO Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin in August last year, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth secretary Milton Foo highlighted that Sarawak gives to Malaya the equivalent of a total of 36,500 units of Rolls Royce a year.
He said the report revealed that Sarawak has the capacity to produce 850,000 barrels of oil per day and at the current price of about RM291 per barrel, it means Sarawak contributes approximately RM250 million to Petronas every day.
“The Pakatan Harapan (PH) government has promised to increase the royalty from five to 20 per cent with no negotiation needed. But what have we seen in the 160 days since PH came into power?” he questioned in a press conference at the SUPP headquarters here today.
“Sarawakians are right to reject DAP (Democratic Action Party)’s proposal on five (per cent royalty) plus 20 (revenue generated from oil and gas after tax deduction) formula because we are not stupid,” he said, pointing out that this was not as promised in the PH/DAP manifesto.
Thus, Foo questioned if DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen has any intention to honour PH’s promises and to fight for Sarawakians regarding 20 per cent oil royalty in the federal cabinet.
“Don’t fool us Sarawakians on the formula but go straight to the point and give us what you have promised. We are still waiting. Don’t play politics, don’t play figures, don’t play tactics, don’t be a drama king and kick the ball here and there.
“Just honour your words in the manifesto, as simple as that. As a federal minister, have you fought for Sarawakians on this issue?” he questioned. — DayakDaily
