KUCHING, Dec 18: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Stakan branch chairman Dato Sim Kiang Chiok criticises Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak for what is described as a “clear contradiction” following the recent Federal cabinet reshuffle.

In a statement today, Sim pointed out the pattern of inconsistencies in DAP Sarawak, particularly when it comes to delivering the promises it makes.

“The appointment of a DAP Sarawak Member of Parliament as a Deputy Minister is a clear and undeniable u-turn. This is not an administrative coincidence – it is a direct contradiction of what was promised to Sarawakians,” he said.

He noted that in 2022, Sarawak DAP leaders publicly assured Sarawakians that they had no ambition to hold executive power, repeatedly stating they were content to remain backbenchers in Parliament.

“This assurance was used to gain public trust and to portray DAP Sarawak as different from its Peninsular leadership. Yet in 2025, that promise has been conveniently discarded.”

Sim also cited political analyst Jayum Jawan who has openly observed that these latest Federal appointments are politically strategic, aimed at strengthening DAP and PKR in Sarawak ahead of the next State election.

“This reinforces concerns that Sarawak is once again being treated as a political testing ground for acceptance of Malayan based parties in Sarawak,” Sim said.

“Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), including Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu and SUPP, has remained consistent and transparent: Sarawak must be governed by Sarawak-based parties that answer only to Sarawakians. Our stand on Sarawak’s rights, autonomy, and resources has never changed.

“If DAP Sarawak can reverse its stand on ministerial appointments, oil and gas royalties, and education recognition so easily, Sarawakians must ask: what other promises will be broken after the next election?”

He added that this pattern of inconsistency is not new as Sarawakians were promised 20 per cent oil and gas royalties, yet years later, this remains unfulfilled.

“Sarawakians were also repeatedly assured of national recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), despite the fact that the Sarawak Government recognised UEC more than a decade ago for entry into state service and institutions.

“What Sarawak implemented long ago with political courage, DAP and Pakatan Harapan continue to use as a campaign slogan without delivery at the Federal level.”

He reminded Sarawakians to stay alert, remember what was promised, observe what has been done, and hold politicians fully accountable when the time comes to vote.
“Promises matter. Consistency matters. Sarawak must always come first.” – DayakDaily
