SIBU, July 4: Newly married, Johnny Sia is grateful to have received a special incentive of RM500 from Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Pelawan Service Centre today.
“This is a good initiative by the SUPP Pelawan Service Centre for newly wed couples like us as it helps to reduce our burden,” said Sia after receiving the incentive from Pelawan assemblyman, Michael Tiang.
Sia, 31, who works in a bank, married his wife, Evelyn Wong, 30, in January this year.
“I applied for it (incentive) online. We are very happy to be among the recipients. We will use the money wisely,” he said.
Meanwhile a recipient of the incentive for newborn babies, Nur Alisa, 23, could not make it to the presentation ceremony as she is working in Daro.
She had however asked her sister, Ngu Yee Fong to collect the RM300 incentive on her behalf.
“My sister is very thankful to be given the incentive. The money comes in handy for her as she will use it for her baby girl’s expenses. This is her second child,” said Ngu.
According to Tiang, since he announced the incentives on March 11 this year, a total of 102 couples who are voters in his constituency had received the incentive.
As for newly born babies, the number of recipients was 100.
“We will give this incentive annually for young people to help them as we know they are also facing great financial challenges after getting married,” he said.
The incentive is to congratulate them for their wedding and also to encourage young people to get married. — DayakDaily
