KUCHING, June 10: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch will be hosting its 64th anniversary celebration and gratitude night on June 29 at the Joyous Shanghai Restaurant to honour the contribution of past leaders.
SUPP Kuching Publicity and Information secretary Peter Pui said the main purpose of this occassion is to express gratitude and acknowledged the efforts, sacrifices and contributions of past leaders who played a significant role in establishing and developing the party.
SUPP, being one of the oldest political parties in Malaysia, formed its Kuching branch on June 29, 1959, making it the second oldest after Sibu. This year, the branch celebrates its 64th anniversary.
“We cannot forget the past leaders who have relentlessly dedicate themselves by sacrificing their time, energy and resources as served as the driving force behind SUPP’s existence today.
“They are the starter of the engine as without them, there won’t be SUPP today,” he told a press conference on the event at the SUPP Kuching Branch office near Petanak here today.
Around 100 members, including retired and veteran members, will be invited to attend the gathering.
Pui emphasised that Kuching Branch has been instrumental in shaping the party’s policies and strategic planning since its early days and continues to do so in the present.
“We take pride in the capable leaders who have guided us, such as Datuk Lily Yong even though she had relinquished her position in the party’s (CWC) Central Working Committee this term.
“The members have continued to work closely together, fostering unity among the Main Committee, Women, and Youth divisions,” he said.
Owing a debt of gratitude to the past leaders for selecting outstanding successors to lead the party, Pui added that their unwavering dedication has enabled SUPP to serve the people, uphold the founding principles, and achieve its objectives.
Additionally, the organising committee led by Chai Mian Nyen said they will also be extending invitation to former members who have left Kuching Branch to other branches to join in the celebration.
Pui also hope the former members will rejoin the branch, acknowledging their contribution during their time.
“We want to honour and appreciate their contributions and support. We want them to continuously support the branch and SUPP as a whole, as we strive to move forward together,” he added.
