KUCHING, March 25: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch backs Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah’s view that the Central Database Hub (Padu) registration ‘strips citizens naked’ of their confidential data.
SUPP Kuching branch, in a statement today, said that based on feedback collected from the grassroots, the majority of people do not understand the function of Padu and are concerned about its security.
“It is not uncommon for nation-linked websites to be hacked worldwide in recent years, and the possibility of insiders leaking cannot be ruled out.
“How do the authorities plan to prevent people’s data from being stolen by hackers?” asked the branch.
On another note, SUPP Kuching opined that federal Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli’s approach in calling for citizens to register for Padu to receive government assistance is uncalled for.
It said the “If you don’t do it, you don’t get it” attitude is somewhat arrogant and high-handed.
“The relevant authorities should first adopt a more appropriate approach by explaining it to the people and providing more detailed information to assist them in applying.
“However, since the economy minister has announced that he will come to Kuching this week to explain the issues related to Padu, it is hoped that he can propose practical solutions to our concerns during that time,” the statement read. — DayakDaily
