KUCHING, June 10: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) handed over a donation of RM100,000 to Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) for the setting up of the Barbara Mendu Bay Education Fund, today.

The fund was raised with contributions from SUPP leaders and members during the party’s triennial delegates conference (TDC) held last month.

SUPP president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian pointed out that this simple gesture reflects SUPP as a multi-racial party that highly values education.

“SUPP is honoured to be invited by SIDS to contribute to its education fund.

“Barbara Mendu Bay was one of the founding members of SUPP and we are here to acknowledge and recognise her past contribution to the party as well as Sarawak,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Sim has handed over the donation to SIDS chairlady Dato Ir Alice Jawan Empaling in a simple ceremony today which was witnessed by SUPP deputy presidents Dato Sri Richard Riot and Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

He added that SUPP will continue the aspirations, dreams and struggles of the party’s founders since 1959 for the betterment of Sarawak and Sarawakians.

The Barbara Mendu Bay Education Fund will be used to fund the education needs of Sarakup and Dayak students.

Dr Sim also expressed his gratitude to SUPP members who have contributed generously to this education fund. — DayakDaily
