KUCHING, Feb 2: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) welcomes everyone, regardless of their political affiliations, to its Chinese New Year 2019 open house on Feb 5 from 9.30am till noon.
The party expects about 3,000 people to visit its open house this year.
Its organising chairman cum SUPP Youth chief, Michael Tiang, said this year’s Chinese New Year celebration was all about camaraderie, and people should put aside their political differences and come together to celebrate the auspicious festival.
“We welcome everyone, not just our comrades, but also friends, even Pakatan Harapan (PH) members and from other political parties, because we are Sarawakians and we celebrate this festival together,” he said at the party’s headquarters here today.
Meanwhile, organising chairwoman cum SUPP Women chief Kho Teck Wan said this year’s SUPP Chinese New Year Open House is themed “coming home”.
Back in the days, SUPP, being the oldest party in Sarawak, was considered home to many people, especially its headquarters.
“So, for the theme this time around, we do the same thing … visit the old story and do that again, asking our people to come back home,” she said.
Kho highlighted that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to come at 10am, followed by Yang Di-Pertuan Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at 10.30am.
“We will have a cake-cutting ceremony and calligraphy session, where they will write a few Chinese characters,” she added. — DayakDaily
