KUCHING, July 5, 2026: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Central Youth chairman Kevin Lau Kor Jie has been proposed for consideration as the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for the Bawang Assan State seat in the upcoming Sarawak election.
According to Deputy Premier and SUPP president, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, he will submit Lau’s name to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, in his capacity as GPS chairman, for consideration.
Dr Sim said that Lau, who is also SUPP Bawang Assan Branch chairman, is an active young leader with strong communication skills and has demonstrated a high level of commitment to championing the development of the Bawang Assan constituency.
“He has worked hard and put forward various development proposals, including the construction of a bridge linking Sibu with the western part of Bawang Assan, which received an immediate and positive response from the Sarawak Premier.
“I will nominate him to the Premier as SUPP’s candidate for the Bawang Assan seat under GPS,” he said when speaking at the 12th anniversary celebration of the SUPP Bawang Assan branch in Sibu on Saturday (July 4) in a TVS report.
Dr Sim stressed that Sarawak needs more capable young leaders to ensure the continuity of development and the well-being of its people. — DayakDaily
