SIBU, March 7: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek service centre is providing one-off assistance to students from the B40 and M40 households.
Speaking at a press conference today, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said the assistance is for Year 1 and 2 pupils and students doing their first year at institutions of higher learning (IPTs).
“The recipients’ parents must be voters in the Bukit Assek constituency. The assistance we introduced for Year 1 and 2 pupils is in the form of school bags and other school equipment,” he said.
It is open to 200 applicants; one family can have two applicants, and the closing date is on April 15.
However, due to limited resources, the selection of applicants would be on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis.
On the assistance for IPT students, he explained that cash assistance of RM1,000 will be given as a one-time payment to each student.
“This is because students need to spend a lot of money on transport tickets, fees, laptops, and other necessities. So we feel the assistance can reduce their burden to some extent,” he added.
Joseph said application forms for the assistance can be obtained from his service centre at No. 52, First Floor, Lorong Lanang 1.
“We hope the people in the Bukit Assek constituency can take advantage of this initiative. Although it is not much, we believe it can ease the burden of families from the B40 and M40 groups.
“I assure you that we will introduce more assistance for the people in the Bukit Assek constituency after this,” he said.
Also present at the press conference was SUPP Bukit Assek branch chairman Dato Chieng Buong Toon. — DayakDaily
