Sungai Maaw tragedy: Bodies of two victims found

KUCHING, Jan 10: The bodies of two individuals reported missing after the car they were in plunged into the river at the Tanjung Kunyit Sungai Maaw ferry point have been found.

A spokesman for Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said the body of the first victim was found floating in the Lebaan River around 10.05am while the body of the second victim, a woman, was found at the Sibu express boat terminal around noon yesterday.

The bodies of the man and woman respectively were handed over to the police for further action.


Meanwhile, at 4.47pm yesterday, the car was successfully raised from the river.

The police is presently conducting an investigation into the cause of the incident.

On January 6, a car carrying two men and a woman plunged into the river at the ferry point at around 7am.

One of the victims, a 38-year-old man, managed to save himself while the other two were reported missing.

A search and rescue operation was launched as soon as the incident report was received. ā€” DayakDaily
