KUCHING, June 19: Urging the public not to speculate and pre-judge, a senior lawyer says that the accusations framed against the wife of Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud, Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib, are “baseless”.
Counsel representing Ragad, Shankar Ram Asnani, believed that the case should not have been filed in court in the first place.
“I would like to invite the members of the public not to pre-judge. Basically, as the counsel, my first preliminary view of the matter is that the action is baseless,” said Shankar when met by the media in the Kuching Court Complex after the mentioning of the case involving the Taib’s family members today.
Taib’s son Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib, has recently brought a case against his stepmother Ragad and RHB Investment Bank.
The details of the case are kept under wraps as counsels from all sides are keeping mum.
When pressed by the media, Shankar refused to divulge the accusations framed against Ragad at this stage except that he will reveal further when counter-accusations have been filed.
“They are seeking an injunction, and I think I reserve my right until you (the reporters) see the papers (documents). But this is a baseless case.
“It should not be in the court in the first place,” said Shankar.
In this high-profile civil case, Shankar and Alvin Yong represent Ragad, while Tan Kee Heng defends RHB Investment Bank.
