KUCHING, July 26: Over 1,000 athletes from the Sarawak contingent are gearing up to participate in the Ibu Pertiwi Flag Handover Ceremony to the Sarawak Contingent Leader, a significant event ahead of the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI) Sarawak 2024.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, the ceremony is scheduled to take place on Aug 3 at the Raia Hotel and Convention Centre Kuching here.
Highlighting the event will be a vibrant performance titled ‘Semangat Juara’ (Spirit of Champions), featuring a dance and the symbolic waving of the Ibu Pertiwi flag.
This performance is designed to embody the sportsmanship and competitive spirit of the athletes participating in the Sukma Championship, aligning with the event’s theme, ‘Semangat Perpaduan Membara’ (Burning Spirit of Unity).
Key activities include the official handover of the Ibu Pertiwi flag, a pledge reading by an athlete, and the singing of the Sarawak Contingent song.
The event will culminate in a ‘gerak gempur’ session aimed at boosting the athletes’ morale.
Ukas further also reported that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to grace the ceremony.
The final details of the event were ironed out in a Secretariat Meeting chaired by Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre here yesterday (July 25).
The meeting was attended by representatives from various Sarawak state bodies, including the Protocol, Ceremonial and Event Management Unit (UPPANS), the Sarawak Arts Council (MSS), Ukas, and SSC. — DayakDaily
