Sukma XX: Sarawak brings home medals in squash, diving while women’s rugby team advances to quarterfinals

KUCHING, Sept 20: The pairing of Harith Danial Jefri and Nathalie Sim Shu Eng resulted in a gold medal for Sarawak after they defeated teammates Nathan Kueh Tze Bing and Ma Si Yi 2-1 in the mixed doubles event at the National Squash Centre at Bukit Jalil today in Malaysia Games 2022 (Sukma XX).

In a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, they lost 9-11 in the first set but managed to bounce back in the second and third sets with 11-9 and 11-5, respectively.

As a result, Sarawak also bagged a silver medal in the same event.


When interviewed, Harith, who was making his first appearance at Sukma XX, said he was pleased.

“We only made preparations at the last minute because she (Sim) was studying in the United States. She only returned last week, and we only went through a series of exercises before Sukma.

“I am thrilled because we managed to win this match,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sim, who was also playing for the first time at the sporting event, was happy to have won the gold medal.

She will be competing in the women’s doubles tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the pairing of Elvis Priestly Clement and Jared Aiden contributed Sarawak’s first gold in diving at the National Aquatics Centre.

The two young divers collected the highest score of 334.44 in the men’s platform synchronised event to beat Kuala Lumpur, who took silver, and Sabah, who took bronze.

Elvis also contributed a bronze medal with Soh Tze Kang in the three-metre (m) springboard synchronised event, while Sabah and Kuala Lumpur took home gold and silver, respectively.
