Sukma 2024: Sarawak Pencak Silat team continues winning streak with 3 gold medals

KUCHING, Aug 22: The Sarawak Pencak Silat team has contributed three more gold medals and one bronze as part of the ongoing 21st Malaysia Games 2024’s (Sukma) Silat matches held at Miri City Stadium in Miri on Tuesday (Aug 13).

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, the victories came in the Jurus Wajib Regu Putra, Jurus Wajib Regu Putri, Solo Kreatif Putra, and Solo Baku (Tunggal) Putri events.

Sarawak’s first gold was secured in the Jurus Wajib Regu Putra category, with Ahmad Danial Abdullah, Mohammad Nur Azlisham Mohd Ali, and Suhaiqal Suhardie delivering an impressive performance to defeat the Selangor team.

The second gold followed in the Jurus Wajib Regu Putri category, where Nuradriani Fitri Abdullah, Nur Alfianiz Jordon, and Vivina Anging Johnton emerged victorious over the Johor trio.

Sarawak continued its golden streak as Mohammad Shamiezal Shapian clinched the gold in the Solo Kreatif Putra category, outshining the Federal Territory’s representative, Muhammad Faris Zakwan Mohd Ridzuan.

Sarawak Silat Head Coach Fadzil Jamain expressed his pride in the team’s performance at Sukma 2024, noting that 99 per cent of the team comprises fresh faces. Out of the total 34 athletes, many have demonstrated promising results so far.

Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak and Lambir assemblyman, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, attended the event and shared his admiration and joy for the Sarawak Silat fighters’ impressive showing. — DayakDaily
