Sukma 2024: Sarawak muaythai team bags 2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze so far

BINTULU, Aug 19: Five Sarawak muaythai fighters secured two gold and two silver medals for the State contingent at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) held at Naim Paragon Streetmall here today.

Mifdal Wafiy Ayatullah, 17, scored 9.0 points to win the men’s wai khru event, beating Sabah’s Muhammad Iftikharsyahlan Roslan@Zakaria to settle for silver with 8.80 points.

The bronze medal went to Federal Territories’ Muhammad Taufiq Izazi Safiee Suffian, who collected 8.40 points.

The second gold for Sarawak was delivered by Mifdal and his partner Mohamad Azrell Saifullah Abdullah in the men’s mai muaythai event. The duo scored 8.80 points.

The silver medal went to Sabah’s duo Asyraf Danial Abdul Latif and Marshall Jayden Jerry with 8.60 points, while the bronze went to Federal Territories’ duo Muhammad Taufiq Izazi Safiee Suffian and Nasrullah Rosli (8.47 points).

Meanwhile, Sarawak’s female athlete Nur Iklil Zafirah Mohamad Affandi bagged silver for women’s wai khru with 9.30 points, falling short of 0.60 points behind Sabah’s Yan Jia Chi, who won the gold medal.

The bronze medal went to Penang’s Emmabell Cassandra Eddyvicter, who scored 8.80 points.

On the other hand, Sarawak’s duo Ain Arisya Zulkeplie and Nur Arifah Mahsunah Baharom won the silver medal for women’s mai muaythai after collecting 9.27 points.

The gold medal for the category went to Sabahan duo Jezzevelle Myora Jerry and Myra Arina Roslan, while the bronze was bagged by Federal Territories’ duo Nur Ameera Mohd Asri and Nurul Ain Ismail.

Yesterday (Aug 18), the State clinched one bronze medal in muaythai thanks to Mohammad Izzat Zulfaqar Hazrid in the men’s 60-63.5kg category.

This brings Sarawak’s total medal tally in muaythai to two gold, two silver and one bronze.

Tomorrow (Aug 20), five other Sarawak muaythai fighters will head into their respective finals.

They are Muhammad Mikail Ghazali Zulfikar, who will compete in the men’s 51-54kg category, Azhad Haziq Syafaat (men’s 67-71kg), Texas Jeremy Lo (men’s 54-57kg), Maurien Hii Sie Lin (women’s 48-51kg), dan Cherilynn Christalle Chan Qi Qi (women’s 51-54kg). — DayakDaily
