Sukma 2024 a grand success: Premier celebrates S’wak’s victory as champion, reiterates readiness to co-host SEA Games 2027

KUCHING, Aug 24: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has hailed the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 as a resounding success, highlighting the strong sense of unity and camaraderie that was nurtured among Malaysian youths throughout the multi-sport event held in the State.

Abang Johari also commended the athletes who achieved new records, while others displayed exceptional sportsmanship and unwavering dedication.

“Their discipline and enthusiasm not only illuminate their future but also reflect the bright future of all Malaysians,” he said in his speech during the closing ceremony of Sukma 2024 held tonight at the Stadium Perpaduan here.

The Premier also commended Sarawak’s performance as host, stating that the State had provided excellent facilities and services for the athletes and officials.

He acknowledged that while no event is without its minor imperfections, the overall organisation of Sukma 2024 was a great success, with Sarawak delivering its best for the youth of Malaysia.

He also thanked the Sukma 2024 organising committee, led by the Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts and Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports for their unwavering support.

“I congratulate the Sarawak contingent for their outstanding performance and becoming the champion of Sukma 2024,” the Premier declared enthusiastically, raising cheers among the audience.

“We are ready to co-host the SEA Games (Southeast Asian Games) in 2027, and we look forward to meeting again in Selangor in 2026 for the next edition of Sukma,” he added.

The Premier’s speech concluded with rousing applause as he led the crowd in chanting ‘Agi Idup, Agi Ngelaban’.

The event was attended by various dignitaries and officials, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim; Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof; Senate president Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah; Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Federal Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh; Abdul Karim; and State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki. — DayakDaily
