KUCHING, July 18: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has identified a new Covid-19 cluster in Kuching called the Stutong market cluster.

The committee in a press statement today said two positive Covid-19 cases were detected as a result of Covid-19 swab test which involved 56 hawkers at the Stutong market here.

It added the State Health Department will be conducting further swab test on all the hawkers and petty traders at the market which has an estimation of 200 persons.

In the meantime, SDMC said there were two positive Covid-19 cases detected at the Stutong market out of the seven positive cases reported today.

It asserted that the two cases identified from the Stutong market were local hawkers who were asymptomatic.

SDMC believed the source of the Covid-19 infection for the two cases in Stutong market could be local transmission as both cases did not have history of travelling overseas.

The committee said further investigation and contact tracing were actively being carried out.—DayakDaily
