Strengthening Sarawak’s position as corporate meetings, incentives destination

Fifty international destination management companies from Matta participated in an interactive workshop held in Kuala Lumpur recently.

KUCHING, May 10: Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) and the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) are fulfilling one of their strategies to educate the public and raise awareness of Sarawak’s destination readiness for national and international corporate meetings and corporate incentives.

According to a press release issued today, 50 international destination management companies from Matta participated in an interactive workshop held in Kuala Lumpur, as part of BESarawak’s strategies to develop Sarawak as a competitive corporate meetings and corporate incentives destination.

With international borders reopened, destination readiness is one of three emphases on BESarawak’s blueprint for corporate meetings and corporate incentives and is key in luring business events back to the State.

“BESarawak’s collaboration with Matta is a steady path to securing more business events of this nature. In addition, we aim to increase our market share by developing corporate meetings and corporate incentives that are unique to Sarawak and delegates,” Amelia Roziman stated.

The CEO of BESarawak continued to say that “the conventions and exhibitions segments have contributed to 80 per cent of Sarawak’s business events, and we are hoping to increase our corporate meetings and incentives market share from 20 per cent to 40 per cent by 2024.”

BESarawak’s collaboration with Matta is just the beginning of driving more sustainable, community-driven business events.

“We believe that corporate meetings and corporate incentive events effectively deepen the relationship with the local community without diminishing the cultural narrative of the destination,” said Oscar Choo, chairman of Matta Sarawak.

“What Sarawak offers is an immersive experiential itinerary that touches on culture, adventure, nature, food, and festivals. A good idea to impact the community would be to include a corporate social responsibility activity as part of the itinerary,” Choo continued.

BESarawak offers an extensive range of support, services, and incentives for corporate groups to organise a corporate meeting, incentive, or both.
