KUCHING, Sept 16: Sarawak and Sabah should strengthen their bilateral relations to address the issue of state rights within the Malaysia Agreement of 1963 (MA63).
In making this assertion, Sarawakian activist Peter John Jaban emphasised that this move would empower both states to present a more unified front when addressing concerns related to state rights.
“A stronger bilateral relationship between Sarawak and Sabah can also pave the way for closer cooperation across various domains, including economic development, infrastructure projects, tourism, education, and cultural exchange.
“By capitalising on each other’s strengths and resources, both states can mutually benefit and enhance their overall development,” he stated in a press release today.
He added that addressing concerns regarding state rights should be a top priority for Sarawak and Sabah, encompassing the reclamation of autonomy in sectors such as education, healthcare, immigration, land matters, and religious freedom.
“By addressing these concerns and reinstating the rights of both states, Sarawak and Sabah can ensure a fairer and more balanced development within the Malaysian federation.
“These two states can engage effectively with the Federal government and call for the restitution and preservation of their rights as stipulated in MA63,” he added. — DayakDaily
