KUCHING, Oct 30: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap today inspected the final phase of street lighting project at the Jalan Sungai Tapang T-junction beside Kem Semenggo, implemented under his RM1 million Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2022 allocation.
Under Phase 4, Sarawak Energy Berhad’s (SEB) appointed contractor is installing 13 new streetlights at a cost of RM60,000.
The installation of streetlight poles was carried out today, while cabling and connection works are expected to follow soon.
Yap said the street lighting project is part of his continuous efforts to improve public safety, road visibility, and the quality of life for residents and road users, particularly along the busy stretch near Kem Semenggo.
“This street lighting initiative will make the road safer for motorists and pedestrians, especially at night.
“It also reflects our ongoing commitment to ensure that development and basic amenities reach every part of Kota Sentosa,” he said in a press statement.
He also added that the RTP allocation under the Sarawak Government has been instrumental in funding community-based infrastructure such as drainage upgrades, road repairs, and lighting improvements — all of which directly benefit local residents.
Yap further expressed appreciation to SEB and the contractor for their commitment and cooperation in ensuring the project is completed according to schedule and quality standards.
Completion of Phase 4 will mark the full rollout of RTP 2022 street lighting projects in Kota Sentosa, boosting road safety for residents. — DayakDaily
