KUCHING, Jan 20: Payments under Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) Phase 1 for 2026 have begun today, benefiting five million recipients nationwide with cash assistance ranging from RM100 to RM500, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said the rollout follows his 2026 New Year Address, with 3.7 million households and 1.3 million senior citizens without spouses eligible to receive the aid based on their respective qualifications.
He said improvements to STR, now integrated with the implementation of Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), are intended to ensure eligible groups receive more consistent and sustained assistance to meet basic needs.
“STR is provided as additional quarterly assistance to offer financial breathing space during peak periods such as festive seasons, while SARA functions as a stable monthly basic support,” he said.
Anwar added that the Madani government remains committed to ensuring every citizen can live with dignity, with no one left behind amid ongoing cost-of-living pressures.
“I hope this assistance will be fully utilised by the recipients,” he said. — DayakDaily
