KUCHING, June 25: Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) was certified by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for having the most number of percussionists playing at one time at a music festival involving a total of 2,763 participants today.
The percussionists attempted the feat at the 26th Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) which was held for three days from June 23– 25 at Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) here.
The certificate was handed over by MBR Chief Operation Officer Christopher Wong to STB Chief Executive Officer Sharzede Salleh Askor and witnessed by federal Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, and Member of Parliament for Santubong Dato Sri Nancy Shukri during the drum circle at the SCV arena.
Also present was STB Chairman Dennis Ngau who is also Telang Usan assemblyman.
Commenting on the achievement which was one of the highlights of RWMF 2023, Wong said that STB achieved a new record during the three-day event, and he hoped for more new records next year.
He told reporters the record would promote RWMF and the local culture to the rest of Malaysia and the world.
He commended STB for achieving this record and using this event as a platform to promote Malaysia to the rest of the world, as well as raise the music standard to the international level.
“We hope Sarawak will achieve and have more records to come,” he said.
The three-day festival tonight will close with performances from Suk Binie (Sarawak), Tuku Kame (Sarawak), Geng Wak Long (West Malaysia), Afriquoi (UK), Marukeh (Sarawak), Safi Theatre (Tanzania), Rizal Hadi & Folk (Indonesia), and Big Mountain (USA and Jamaica). — DayakDaily
