KUCHING, March 13: Sarawak is expected to experience persistent heavy rainfall and rough sea conditions as strong winds and turbulent seas are forecast to affect the South China Sea from March 17 to 21, according to a significant weather alert issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) at 1pm today.
The latest weather forecast models indicate a surge of monsoon winds entering the region, potentially causing hazardous weather conditions in Sarawak, Sabah, and the southern parts of Peninsular Malaysia during this period.
In response to these developments, MetMalaysia has issued a Strong Wind and Rough Sea Warning, effective from March 18 to 21 for the South China Sea waters.
A Continuous Heavy Rain Warning will be issued as soon as forecast models reach a high level of confidence.
The public is strongly advised to stay updated via the official MetMalaysia website (www.met.gov.my), follow MetMalaysia’s social media channels, and download the myCuaca mobile application for accurate and up-to-date weather information. — DayakDaily
