KUCHING, Nov 4:  The 200 kilogram Sarawak’s midin which will land in Singapore on Nov 8 (Sunday) has already been sold out via pre-order at the price of SGD12 or about RM36 per kilogram.

Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (Statos) CEO Chew Chang Guan told DayakDaily that the first shipment through direct flight even though has yet to reach the shore of Singapore, has been sold out through pre-order.

This happened within 18 hours after the news of the shipment was made public on Statos social media page on Oct 29, 2020.
“The next day noon, all 200 kg of midin are sold out and that happened within 18 hours of the announcement of the availability of the produce on Oct 29, 2020,” said Chew.

“It is a good initial start.  We are now testing the market and in the process of getting more demand and supply for the produce.

“This augurs well for Sarawak which has the potential to be a food basket by 2030,” said Chew.

The 200 kg of midin is expected to arrive at 10 to 11pm of Nov 8 and it will be delivered to the pre-ordered customers on the next day.

Chew said apart from midin, there have been requests for other agricultural produces endemic to Sarawak including terung Dayak and dabai.

So far, according to Chew, Sarawak has exported pork, tilapia, laksa paste, kelulut honey, bird’s nest and Sarawak pepper directly to Singapore.

He said Singaporeans are very much into food produce that is premier, clean, organic and green, something like midin and encouraged Sarawakians to think of food produce endemic to Sarawak that can be sold to Singapore.
