SIBU, July 6: Sarawak PKR is prepared for the Sarawak election due in 2021, but the question remains whether its message goes down well with the voters.
Its chairman, Baru Bian, believed if the voters received the message well, then there would be “positive results”.
“We are prepared, but the question is if the people are with us or not. The message must be disseminated to the ground and (the question is) whether the people are in agreement with our message.
“You prepare the best you can, send the message, disseminate the message and if the message is well received, I believe there will be positive results,” Baru told DayakDaily when asked if Sarawak PKR was confident of winning in the state polls.
Baru, who is also Works Minister, said the confidence of the party lay in its preparedness for the election.
“Whatever it is, we must be prepared and be confident in every situation. But then factors are changing. You know, surrounding factors and we must be confident in whatever we do,” he said, adding that Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) was prepared, not just PKR.
On whether he would describe Sarawak PH as the government-in-waiting, like State Reform Party Sarawak (STAR) president Lina Soo suggested, Baru disagreed.
“We did not say that. You don’t claim something that is due in the future but preparedness is very important,” said Baru.
On the number of seats that PKR would be contesting, Baru said it had not been finalised yet.
In the 2016 state election, Sarawak PKR contested 40 seats and won three, Sarawak DAP fielded 31 candidates and won seven seats, while Amanah Sarawak contested in 13 seats and lost all.
Last year, however, another component party of Pakatan Harapan — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) — spread its wings to Sarawak.
Component parties within PH need to go through more negotiations to accommodate Bersatu joining the fray. — DayakDaily
