KUCHING, Oct 16: State governments and local authorities (PBT) have been urged to strengthen the implementation of the MYJalan digital platform within their respective jurisdictions to ensure faster, data-driven road maintenance and enhanced public safety.

Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the platform, which allows the public to channel complaints and information on road conditions online, has received over 40,000 reports since its launch, enabling the ministry and the Public Works Department (JKR) to take swift and targeted action.

“Road maintenance is a shared responsibility for the safety and well-being of the people. Through MYJalan, we are not only improving efficiency but also ensuring that every feedback from the public contributes to safer and better-managed roads,” he said in a post shared on his social media after officiating a ceremony to present certificates for road safety programmes in Seremban today.

Nanta emphasised that a safe road network is more than just asphalt and traffic lights, describing it as “the lifeline that connects people, the economy, and hope.”

He said the ministry, through various initiatives such as the Blackspot Programme, Signalised Pedestrian Crossing (LPKSI), and maintenance works under Work Directives (AK), is committed to ensuring that every kilometre of federal roads remains safe, user-friendly, and well-maintained.

“For 2025, a total of RM2.446 billion has been allocated for federal road maintenance, with over RM1.3 billion already utilised for upgrading works, including RM37 million for the implementation of the Road Safety Infrastructure Upgrading Programme,” he disclosed.

During the event, Nanta also witnessed the handover of 77 Certificates of Practical Completion (CPC) for road safety programmes and 1,402 CPCs for maintenance works carried out by four main concessionaires, with a combined value of RM1.069 billion.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of Letters of Acceptance (SST) for major projects such as the Benta Link and two new bridges in Jelebu and Melaka, expected to bring direct benefits to nearby communities.

“With more than 1,700 contractors and hundreds of local workers involved, this proves that infrastructure projects are not only about building roads, but also about driving the grassroots economy,” Nanta added.

He reaffirmed the ministry and JKR’s commitment to improving road safety and maintenance nationwide, underscoring collaboration between federal, state, and local levels as key to sustainable infrastructure development. — DayakDaily
