State govt to set up Northern Development Agency Authority to develop Limbang and Lawas

LIMBANG, Feb 2: The state government is in the midst of establishing a new agency called Northern Development Agency Authority for the development of modern agriculture in Limbang and Lawas.

The state government has earmarked land across Limbang town and along Sungai Limbang to be cultivated via modern agriculture using the Internet of Things (IoT), revealed Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“We will develop the land across Limbang town with modern agriculture once the construction of the bridges across Sungai Limbang are completed.

“In the near future, we will start breeding buffalo.

“We will work and collaborate with Brunei.

“And we will set up a new special agency for Limbang and Lawas called Northern Development Agency Entity which will be chaired by (Deputy Chief Minister) Datuk Amar Awang Tengah (Ali Hasan),” Abang Johari said in his speech when launching the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Limbang zone at the Limbang District Council carpark compound here today.

He revealed that there is a masterplan to develop Lawas under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) with an allocation of RM1.5 billion.

He disclosed that the allocation is for two years while under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), he will seek additional funds to develop Limbang and Lawas.

He revealed that the projects announced and other proposals raised by Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail will be included in the masterplan for the development of Limbang under NRDA.

Among those present at the launching were Awang Tengah, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Dr Abdul Rahman, Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting, Progressive Demoractic Party (PDP) deputy president Datuk Nelson Balang Ringin, and Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang.

It was estimated that more than 5,000 GPS members attended the event. — DayakDaily
