State govt approves land for DCCI headquarters

KUCHING, June 1: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg announced the approval of a piece of land for the construction of the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) headquarters.

This came after he affirmed the contributions of the Dayak community which he said had played a vital role in the political and economic life of Sarawak.

“Dayak-based non-governmental bodies particularly the DCCI have done well to encourage members of the Dayak community to be actively involved in trade, commerce and industry.

“I sincerely hope that DCCI will continue to become an organisation to provide the guidance for more Dayak businessmen to be successful.

“In this respect, the government has approved a piece of land at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee (Kuching) for DCCI to build their headquarters,” said Abang Johari in his Gawai Dayak message.

Apart from DCCI, the Chief Minister also acknowledged the contributions of other Dayak-based NGOs such as Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA), Orang Ulu National Association, Persatuan Lun Bawang Sarawak and Persatuan Bisaya Sarawak.

“Dayak social non-governmental organisations like DBNA have also done well as a body that looks after the interests and welfare of the Bidayuhs.

“Of particular mention is the invaluable assistance DBNA has rendered in helping Bidayuh NCR (native customary rights) landowners to get organised and agree among themselves and make the process of NCR demarcation by the Land and Survey Department so much easier in Bidayuh areas.”

“Others like the Orang Ulu National Association, Persatuan Lun Bawang Sarawak and Persatuan Bisaya Sarawak have too done well in their earnest effort to preserve their unique culture and promote them among their younger generations and turn them into tourist attractions,” said Abang Johari. — DayakDaily
