State government will continue to develop northern region into food production area

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas

MIRI, Sept 5: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government will continue to develop the northern region of Sarawak through Highland Development Agency (HDA) into a food production area.

Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the GPS government would continue with its development programmes for the people including those under HDA in the Miri Division.

“The HDA areas have very high potential as a food production area.

“We want to exploit its full potential.

“In Telang Usan area alone, we are spending RM750 million to bring in more infrastructures and amenities. And this is for a start.

“The HDA area can be a very important contributor to the state objective of becoming a net exporter of food and food products by 2030,” he said during a dinner here last night.

Uggah who is Deputy Chief Minister added that while the state government would provide the resources, infrastructure, programmes and expertise, it was for the people themselves to do their part in order to become successful.

Meanwhile, Uggah who is Bukit Saban assemblyman added that upon requests from Datuk Gerawat Gala who is Mulu state assemblyman and Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had agreed to reserve a certain portion of contract works being implemented to local qualified contractors.

“The GPS government is committed to develop every nook and corner of the state including both constituencies.

“The GPS must be returned to power in the coming state election for the sake of continuity.

“The people in the HDA areas must play their parts in ensuring that both the Telang Usan and Mulu seats are also won by GPS with handsome majorities.

“GPS is simply the best choice,” he said. —DayakDaily
