KUCHING, Apr 17: A total of 1,088 sets of food baskets from the state food aid programme have been delivered to eligible residents in BDC, Lorong 2 RPR and BDC Resettlement Scheme under the Stampin constituency over the past few days.

According to the Chief Minister’s political secretary Tan Kai, Chinese community leader Kapitan Boon Voon Min has mobilised a team of people to deliver the food aid to the families facing hardship due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Movement Control Order (MCO).

“Kapitan Boon has been helping to arrange the delivery. But due to the MCO, there are some constraints to delivery.

“To prevent crowd gathering, minimise physical contact and maintain social distancing, community leaders would send the food aid to the recipient house instead of dropping them in a community centre for collection,” he explained.

The food basket consisted of rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour and biscuits were provided by Kuching Resident Office and Kuching Division Disaster Management Committee.

While food aid was being sent out, Tan, however, said that there were still many members of the public calling in for assistance to be extended to them.

“Kapitan Boon promised to seek further assistance from Kuching Divisional Disaster Management Committee,” he added.—DayakDaily
