KUCHING, Oct 5: Barely a week after becoming the state’s new fire chief, Khirudin Drahman is already hard at work, going down to the ground.

Right after tending to the funeral of fallen hero Yahya Ali in Matu, near Sibu, yesterday, Khirudin this morning played host to 151 children from two kindergartens at the Sungai Merah Bomba station in Sibu. The children tried their hands on firefighting equipment during the visit.

Khirudin told DayakDaily that he educated the 15 teachers and children of Tadika Fu Yuan and Tadika Bunga Raya about fire prevention and children fire safety awareness.

“These (children) are our future leaders, and we must nurture them early,” he stressed.

The teachers and children dropped by the station at 8.30am and left two hours later, becoming more aware that fire is a good servant but a bad master. — DayakDaily
