KUCHING, May 19: International cruise operator StarDream Cruises is exploring plans to introduce a Sarawak cruise package and include the State’s ports in its Southeast Asia cruise itineraries.
Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the State government through the ministry and the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) is currently pursuing discussions on the matter with the Singapore Tourism Board and Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore.
“The proposed collaboration could help strengthen Sarawak’s position as a regional cruise tourism destination while expanding visitor access to the State through international cruise networks,” he said.
He said during his ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.
The minister added the cruise industry presents significant growth opportunities for Sarawak’s tourism sector not only in terms of economic returns but also through broader social and sustainable development benefits. — DayakDaily
