KUCHING, Aug 17: The quietness is the one thing that sets apart a Starbucks Signing Store from its other stores, says Berjaya Food Berhad chief executive officer and Starbucks Malaysia & Brunei managing director Dato Sydney Quays.
Similar to any other Starbucks store, he said, the latest Signing Store located on the ground floor of Vivacity Megamall here has 12 to 15 staff members.
“Other than the extra tools we provide for the deaf employees, like the signages and tablets, everything else is the same (between a Signing Store and other Starbucks stores).
“There is no discrimination, no whatever. The quality of service you’ll get is the same.
“The only (stark) difference would be that it’s much quieter,” he said at the media question and answer (Q&A) session after the grand opening ceremony earlier today.
A Starbucks Signing Store is a dedicated store that provides employment opportunities for deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
The hearing community are also welcome to purchase their coffees or dine-in at a Signing Store, where customers can use the available tablets at the counter to write down their orders.
Visit the Signing Store a few more times, and you may just learn how to sign your favourite Starbucks drink in no time. — DayakDaily
