KOTA SAMARAHAN, June 17: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) had requested a big developer group to consider setting up a ‘star-rated’ hotel here as part of its huge oncoming project.
Hotel stars are a rating system that evaluates a hotel’s features and amenities and is an indicator of its quality, cleanliness, and standards.
MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos said such a hotel is badly needed, especially when Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) have their respective convocation ceremonies.
“At those times, many from Sabah and the Peninsula and even those travelling from the interior areas of Sarawak would inquire about hotel rooms.
“They are the graduates’ parents, relatives, and friends,” he said in a statement today.
Presently, there are three small-budget hotels in Kota Samarahan.
Minos further said that in the next five years, many big public and private sector projects would be coming up in Kota Samarahan, with officials, associates, and clients needing hotel rooms.
Currently, groups and agencies wanting to organise functions, conferences, and seminars have to go to Kuching for the big hotels. That includes MPKS itself.
“When the severe traffic jam problems are being solved and with the coming of Autonomous Railway Transit (ART), there will be a second wave of development in Kota Samarahan like housing, shops, and offices. I’m sure of this. A star hotel will then have clients and customers in such development.
“A star-rated hotel, as we all know, adds to the quality of life in an area in one way or another. That is why MPKS is initiating the move for one private group to think and consider setting up a star-rated hotel in Kota Samarahan,” he added. — DayakDaily
