KUCHING, July 11: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has urged the Ministry of Works Malaysia to paint the curbs along Jalan Penrissen with alternating black and white strips to improve visibility and safety, especially at night.

In a letter submitted to Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi in Parliament, Putrajaya today, Chong requested immediate action to prevent accidents and loss of life.

The letter highlighted complaints from road users about the unpainted curbs along the stretch from 10th to 3rd Mile, despite the completion of the Pan Borneo Highway.

“The lack of the marking poses danger to road users, especially those who has slightly impaired eyesight during night time.

“I believe that it has always been the standard set by the Ministry of Works that all road curbs must be painted with black and white stripes to comply with the safety requirement and that such standard is of universal application in all countries,” he said.

Chong also expressed his disbelief that the single largest Federal road construction project in Sarawak was completed without implementing this essential safety measure. ā€” DayakDaily
