KUCHING, Aug 3: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has extended tertiary education aid to the daughter of a retired army personnel.
In a press statement, Chong who is also Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chief said it was a pleasure and honour to present his Stampin Service Centre’s Tertiary Education Assistance Fund to Emelda, the daughter of retired military personnel Francis, who had served and protected our country during his service days.
“She will be pursuing her Diploma in the English Language course in University Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Perak at the end of this month and I wish her well in the pursuit of her studies.
“Sarawak will need more trained English teachers and I am sure she will be able to contribute to the education of our future youth,” said Chong, who handed over the aid to Emelda yesterday.
He further pointed out that Francis’ pension as a retired army personnel can barely make ends meet now amid the high cost of living.
“His daughter’s tertiary education is thus a heavy burden on the family. As such, when he approached me through WhatsApp for some financial assistance for his daughter, I had no second thoughts about it.
“As Francis had served and protected our country during his prime as a soldier, it was a pleasure and an honour for me to help him in his retirement, especially in the little way that I can help in the provision of tertiary education for his daughter,” said Chong. — DayakDaily
