KUCHING, Oct 21: St Peter’s Church, Padungan, will usher in the Christmas season this year with its inaugural Christmas Village from Dec 4 to 13, featuring festive attractions, local products and five special Community Dinners for individuals and children from underprivileged backgrounds.

Held daily from 5pm to 11pm, the 10-day event is themed “Rediscover the Heart of Christmas” with the ten-evening celebrations featuring Christmas lights, Nativity displays, carolling, musical performances, festive food, handcrafted gifts and seasonal activities, blending traditional Christmas celebrations with a distinctively Sarawakian touch.

Five special dinners sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Malaysia (MOTAC), will also be held on five selected evenings during the Christmas Village event. These dinners will welcome individuals with special needs, children from charitable organisations and children from beyond the city, treating them to festive meals, entertainment and memorable Christmas experiences.

In a press statement, Rector of St Peter’s Church, Reverend Father Vincent Chin, said the initiative aims to establish a cherished annual Christmas tradition for Kuching.

“We hope to create a place where people can experience the beauty and joy of Christmas, enjoy time with family and friends, and rediscover the values of love, generosity and goodwill that make this season so special,” said Chin.

He also expressed his appreciation to MOTAC for supporting the initiative.

“We are sincerely grateful to MOTAC for making these special gatherings possible. Christmas is a time for sharing, and through these dinners, we hope to bring happiness to our special guests and create wonderful memories for them,” he said.

The initiative reflects the Village’s commitment to celebrating Christmas through meaningful acts of kindness and inclusion.

Taking place during Advent, the Christmas Village will also provide opportunities for prayer and quiet reflection, allowing visitors to appreciate the deeper significance of Christmas amid the festivities.

At the heart of the event will be Nativity Square, which celebrates the story of Christ’s birth, while Bethlehem Hall and Fellowship Walk will offer spaces for festive dining, seasonal treats, Christmas gifts and creative offerings.

Under the concept “Made in Sarawak for Christmas”, the Village will also showcase local artisans, craftspeople, home bakers and food entrepreneurs, highlighting handcrafted products, Christmas specialities and locally inspired gifts.

St Peter’s Church is also inviting interested vendors and creative businesses to register their participation. Parish ministries and organisations within the Archdiocese of Kuching are also encouraged to contribute to the festivities.

“We invite everyone to join us at St. Peter’s and be part of what we hope will become a much-loved annual Christmas tradition for Kuching,” Chin added.

Vendor registration is now open, WhatsApp the Hotline: +60123962512 for the form. Registration closes on Wednesday November 4, 2026 at 5pm and payment deadline for confirmed participants is on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 5pm.
