KUCHING, Oct 9: St Catherine’s Church in Kampung Bratan needs to raise at least an additional RM500,000 to start the construction of a new church to replace the existing small, dilapidated building.
Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Willie Mongin said the new church will cost about RM1 million.
He revealed that the church, so far, has managed to collect a total of RM160,000 including an allocation of RM100,000 from his funding, and RM5,000 as his personal contribution.
He also announced an additional allocation of RM50,000.
“The church has also submitted their application to the Ministry of National Unity for the fund, and is still waiting for a response,” he said when speaking at a fundraising dinner for the construction of St Catherine’s Church in Kampung Bratan here last night, according to a statement.
He also suggested that the management of St Catherine’s Church submit an application letter to the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) for a grant. — DayakDaily
