St Augustine Church’s Parish Carnival ends in joyful unity, Betong MP pledges RM25,000

BETONG, Oct 1: The annual Parish Sale Carnival at St Augustine Church concluded on Sunday with a vibrant show of faith, unity, and fellowship, drawing parishioners and the wider community together in celebration and support of the church.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, the three-day event, held from Sept 26 to 28 at the Parish Hall grounds, wrapped up with an official closing ceremony graced by Betong Member of Parliament (MP) Dato Dr Richard Rapu.

He first joined the Sunday Mass before officiating the ceremony, where he commended the parish for their dedication and teamwork.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to all who worked tirelessly to make this meaningful event a success. It reflects the spirit of cooperation and unity within our community,” he said.

Dr Richard also lauded the parish for its proactive fundraising approach.

“This initiative goes beyond relying on donations. It shows creativity and commitment in sustaining the church’s daily operations,” he added.

In a show of support, he presented RM5,000 to the Parish Sale Committee and announced the approval of RM20,000 in MRP funding for the church.

Parish priest Father Rentap Nuang expressed his gratitude to parishioners and the community, noting that the carnival has grown into a cherished annual tradition that strengthens bonds of fellowship.

Meanwhile, Parish Sale Committee chairman Britt Mattin Gana highlighted the diverse attractions that made this year’s event a success, including food and drink stalls, traditional delicacies, a BBQ corner, car wash, live band and karaoke performances, lucky draws, and traditional clothing sales. — DayakDaily
