Sri Maha Mariamman Temple announces temporary closure

KUCHING, March 23: The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple administration has placed restriction on its operations in complying with the Movement Control Order (MCO).

The Kuching Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Association president, Shankar Ram Asnani, said the temple will be closed to the public but limited to basic service such as the prayers of the temple deities by the “Poosari” (priest)

Contractors working on the temple reconstruction has also been told by authorities to temporarily stop, he added.


“This situation is truly unavoidable, but we, the management committee, assure that all works will be expedited once the contractors are allowed to resume the construction works.

“Our biennial general meeting has also been postponed until further notice from the Registrar of Societies,” he said in a statement.

Shankar commended the state government’s bold action for being among the earliest to take the a right step in ordering for a restricted movement.

He said that certain laws have been triggered into effect meant to protect the public from the Covid-19 outbreak.

“Above all, each of you must exercise you respective social responsibility in keeping your personal hygiene and stay at home,” he advised the public. — DayakDaily
