KUCHING, Aug 9: Sri Aman and Lubok Antu have been issued a Level 1 heat alert by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on Saturday (Aug 8).
According to the department’s Facebook, the Level 1 heat alert was also issued to three areas in Peninsular Malaysia, namely Machang and Gua Musang in Kelantan, and Maran in Pahang.
A Level 1 heat alert is issued when daily maximum temperatures reach 35 degrees Celsius to 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
The department also said that hot weather is expected to persist in Sarawak until Aug 14.
“The influence of winds from the south, together with the number of hotspots expected to remain high in neighbouring countries, could potentially cause transboundary haze and reduce visibility, particularly in southern Sarawak,” it said.
Meanwhile, according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), the numbers of areas in Sarawak that recorded unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) readings remained at eight as of 3pm today.
Serian still topped the list at 169, followed by Samarahan (157), Kuching (156), Bintulu and Sri Aman (154), Samalaju and Sarikei (152), and Miri (119). — DayakDaily
